Forum Marketing Case Study – Fast Free Traffic Method

In this article i’m going to show you a case study about one of my favorite methods to drive free traffic to my squeeze page, which is forum marketing. Now it doesn’t really matter what niche you are in, and where you want to drive the traffic to (even though i suggest you use a squeeze page to capture email addresses), you can make forum marketing work for you either way.
One of the awesome free traffic generation products i recently reviewed called Red Hot Traffic Firestorm that got Wso of the day talked about 4 free traffic generating methods, and guess what? Forum marketing was one of them. :) So in this post i’m going to present you with a case study i did a couple of months back and i’m pretty sure you’ll be surprised with the results.

How to get started with forum marketing?

Well if you’re in the internet marketing niche, there’s basically only 1 forum that i can recommend to you and that’s the Warriorforum. It’s the biggest internet marketing forum on the planet, and it’s very easy to get started because you can add a link in your signature after just a couple of posts. If you’re in a different niche you can do a simple google search to find high traffic forums, something like “keyword + forum” should be enough to find a bunch of forums related to your topic. But for the sake of this case study i’m going to use the Warriorforum as an example.
So after you sign up to the forum, it’s best you make a couple of posts first (more than 10). This shouldn’t take too long and make sure you add value to the forum. You don’t want start off on the wrong foot or you’ll lose a super targeted free traffic source. So make sure you post relevant content, and write more than 1 sentence. It’s just conversation, so just give your opinion on the topics that are posted in the forum.
Alright so once you are signed up and you have posted more than 10 quality comments in the topics, it’s time to add a link in your signature. Here you can see an example of my current signature in the warriorforum:

See what you need to do is make sure you have an interesting signature, and i can assure you, a signature like this gets a lot of clicks. You also notice that i have a little banner in my signature. That’s not free actually, because it costs about $5 / month (they charge $60 so you have to pay for the entire year). I’m not saying that this is necessary, but it definately helps though, but that’s up to you if you want to get that or not, but you get the idea.

Forum marketing case study

Now i have to admit that the Warrorforum is a huge forum with thousands of visitors online at every given time, so if you are using forum to drive traffic in another niche your results might be different, but in the internet marketing niche these results are definately possible.
So as i mentioned earlier, i did a case study a couple of months back , and i added about 5 posts every day in a period of about 8 days and here are the results:
forum marketing case studyAs you can see from my Lead-Swaps tracking stats, i got about 65 clicks in just 8 days, not bad if you ask me. Writing the posts on the forum took me actually less than 30 minutes every day, so if i would scale that up, i could have way more traffic than that.
And so i tested it out for the case study. :) Here are the results from posting about 40 comments in one single day:

So as you can see, i got about 44 unique clicks (54 in total). And even more amazing, i added way over 20 subscribers to my list in a single day, and made 3 sales on the offer i was promoting in my funnel.
Granted, it took about 4 hours to write the posts, but this just goes to show that if you’re a little short on cash and you have the willingness to put in the work, you can achieve great results without having to spend any money.

Other important aspect of forum marketing

Now obviously the free clicks, subscribers and sales are great, and they only increase over time, but there’s another important aspect related to forum marketing that shouldn’t be underestimated.
As your post count grows and people see that you know what you are talking about, your reputation grows. In the online world, reputation is very important and is something that definately increases your conversion rate when you promote offers. This is not something i can prove with actual numbers, but if you put in the effort you will definately see an increase in income if you join the discussion and people start getting to know you.

Case study conclusion

I often give advice to people who are just sarting out with internet marketing, and more specifically with list building that they should start posting on the Warriorforum every single day. Just make it a habbit, don’t do it to see instant results. Even though it’s very possible to make sales every day just from posting on the forum, you should see it in two ways:
  • You’re getting free bonus traffic, more subscribers and sales
  • You’re building up your reputation and that will increase your conversion rate in the long run.
So there you go, i hope you saw that forum marketing is an important aspect of internet marketing. You will never become rich from it, you will never crash your server from all the traffic you receive, but it’s definately worth it to include in your overall marketing strategy.
